Usually this blog is all about our Gooseberry Patch family, whether we're sharing weekly menus, rounding up recipes or sharing free goodies with YOU, our lovely readers.
Today's post is still about community, but in a different way.
Last weekend, we were delighted to send Jen, from our creative team, to Blissdom, a blog conference hosted in Nashville.
She was able to meet many of you in person and bring back plenty of inspiration to share. It was a great experience, but what really touched our hearts was the opportunity to get involved with the new ConAgra Foods campaign to fight childhood hunger in our country.
Here are some statistics from Feeding America, ConAgra's partner in this campaign, that may surprise you...they surprised us.
- According to the USDA, over 16 million children lived in food insecure (low food security and very low food security) households in 2010.
- Nearly 14 million children are estimated to be served by Feeding America, over 3 million of which are ages 5 and under.
- Research indicates that hungry children have done more poorly in school and have lower academic achievement because they are not well prepared for school and cannot concentrate.
Visit ConAgra's site, Child Hunger Ends Here, to see how easy it is for you to help this important cause...and you don't have to do much more than your usual grocery shopping!
Just buy a product from one of their many brands (ones we know and love!), find the code on the back and enter it at the website. For every code that's donated, ConAgra will donate one meal through Feeding America.
Thanks for helping fight childhood hunger!
