Pretty as a picture, these cookies from Big Book of Country Baking taste just as good as they look. Be generous with the powdered sugar sprinkling, of course!
3/4 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
6 1-oz. sqs. white baking chocolate, melted and cooled
3-1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
1/8 t. nutmeg
1-1/2 c. chopped walnuts, toasted
Garnish: powdered sugar
Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy; add eggs, one at a time, beating until blended after each addition. Stir in vanilla; add melted chocolate, beating 30 seconds. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg in a separate bowl, stirring to mix; gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture, beating until blended. Fold in walnuts. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Garnish tops with powdered sugar. Store in an airtight container. Makes 3 to 4 dozen.
