If you ever feel like taking a trip out west without leaving home, this week's Featured Friday blogger is right up your alley.
We're happy to introduce...
Basset's Bull is a blog all about country life with hefty doses of recipes, decorating inspiration, family & friends. Tracy's writing is full of good-natured humor and every time we visit, we leave with a smile.
We asked Tracy to tell us a little about her life on the ranch...
Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
Hi there! I'm Tracy Bassett the wife of Matt and the mother of three delightful daughters, Danielle, Lindi and Katie, the Mother-in-law to the best son-in-laws, Bob, Nick and Richard, and the Grandmother of an angel, Addie!
My husband of 26 years farms and ranches while I take care of "things" at home. I've been privileged to be a "stay at home mom" and now that our daughters are raised, married and out of the home, I continue to be a "stay at home wife"!! :-)
Matt and I were both born and raised in Lovell, WY, and have chosen to make our home here. Of course, since we farm and ranch, we live in the country but choose to be active in our community where Matt serves on various boards including the school board. We're blessed with wide open spaces, a small community of caring individuals, and a place that will be our home forever.
Our family is of utmost importance to us, as you will see by visiting our blog. We have become Grandparents recently and are experiencing the joy that comes with this pleasure! Being empty nesters, we look forward to visits from our married children and love the excitement they bring back into our home.
I like to be home - I like my home! I like to: decorate (I love country primitive decor), clean, bake, take care of my family, serve others, shop, go to lunch with friends (even though I'm an extremely picky eater!), look at others' homes and dream, eat pizza on a Friday or Saturday night at home on my couch while watching a movie with Matt, go to church, take hot baths...a lot of them, read good books, and the list goes on and on! In all reality, I'm a very simple person and a cheap date! For the most part, I live a charmed life and am blessed beyond measure!! :-)
What originally inspired you to start blogging?
My daughters!! When our two oldest daughters married and moved away, they decided we should all start blogs so it would be easier to keep it touch. They were right. It's been fun and exciting to see the new posts of the happenings in their lives. We all know Mom's & Grandma's live for pictures! The twist to this story...who knew I would be the one who blogs the most?!
On your blog, we've seen you take on yummy recipes, decorating and some clever crafts too! Of these three, what would you say your TRUE passion is...or is it something else? How do you stay inspired?
My true passion is decorating. Of course, decorating would be so much easier if there really was a money tree!! :-) I'm pretty sure coming up with ideas that are simple and inexpensive keep me inspired.
Like I've already mentioned, I love my home and decorating it makes me smile. I use items that have been handed down from family members and items that I love. I think that is key - decorate with what you love and make your own style. I also love to blog hop and get ideas. I don't pass up a day of window shopping either. It's great for ideas! I can't forget about my County Sampler magazine. It's always full of inspiration!!
We love the recipes you share on your blog...do you have a favorite?
My family and friends seem to love them all, but I'm all about SIMPLE. Therefore, I would have to pick two recipes - In A Hurry French Dip Sandwiches and Creamy Chicken & Noodle Soup.
Fill in the blank: In my kitchen, we never run out of ________ !
Remodeling ideas or sugar, in any shape or form! :-)
Aside from your family & friends, what are 5 things that you just can't do without?
1. The Gospel of Jesus Christ
2. My bath tub and hot water
3. Sugar
4. Gooseberry Patch Calendar
5. Blogging (it can be addicting, you know!;-))
Tell us something that no one would guess about you.
I was an education major in college. I thought I wanted to be a teacher, hahaha! ;) Now the idea of being a teacher just makes me laugh. I never would have had the patience.
A long time ago, before having three children and four back surgeries, I was actually an athletic woman. In high school, I played basketball, I was a cheerleader, I was the majorette of the marching band, and a track star. I also enjoyed skiing. It seems like a lifetime ago that I was able to do any of these activities. I always joke that I’m trapped in an old woman’s body.
Thanks for sharing with us today, Tracy...keep up the good work!
Here are some more amazing pictures from Bassett's Bull...
Looks just like a postcard...don't you just want to visit?
