This week, we'll be sharing a few of our favorite memories from our Christmas cookbook collection. Today's was sent to us by Debra Collins of Gaylesville, Alabama and it appears in our book, Christmas Kitchen.
A Caroling Hayride
I love Christmas! I love everything about it. But I’ve noticed in the last few years that a lot of the holiday traditions have been forgotten. So last year I planned a Christmas caroling hayride for my family.
Dressed up in his Santa Claus suit, my husband Steve hitched up his wagon to the tractor. We loaded it with hay and cozy quilts and off we went...Steve, myself, our three grown children, our four grandchildren, my sister and her son, and my 70-year-old mother.
We sang our hearts out as we rode along. We forgot the words to some of the carols, so we just made them up as we went. It was very cold, but not one person complained...such a wonderful, magical night!
At the end of the ride we came back in, gathered around the fireplace and talked about all of our Christmas plans. My children are already calling me asking to do it again this year. I do believe this is going to be one of our very own holiday traditions.
