If we had to choose ONE cookbook that sums up what Gooseberry Patch does best, we'd have a hard time selecting just a single title...wouldn't you?
On that list of favorites though, we'd have in include
this week's Cookbook of the Week...
101 Homestyle Favorites was the very first title in our bestselling photography series and it's still one that we still consider a go-to in our own kitchens. It's a great blend of everyday and special occasion, and, with best-of-the-best dishes for oven, stovetop, slow cooker plus no-cook recipes too, it's just what you need for year 'round cooking.
It's divided into easy-to-use category chapters.
Inside each category, you'll find full-color photos (and recipes of course!) to inspire some of the best meals you've ever made. We're excited to share our favorites all week long...put them all together for a can't-miss menu!
First on the menu, is the main dish...
Baked Steak with Gravy
Amy Halstead of Winfield, West Virginia shared this recipe with us. She received the recipe as a wedding gift, one of the very best of the 75 tried & true recipes handwritten for her by a dear friend. What a heartfelt gift...bet Amy remembers her friend each time she serves this savory meal. 1 c. all-purpose flour
1/8 t. salt
1/8 t. pepper
6 to 8 beef cube steaks
1 t. butter
2 10-3/4 oz. cans golden mushroom soup
2-1/2 c. water
4-oz. can sliced mushrooms, drained
Mix flour, salt and pepper in a shallow bowl. Dredge steaks in flour mixture. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat; add steaks and brown on both sides. Arrange steaks in a lightly greased 13"x9" baking pan; set aside. Combine soup, water and mushrooms. Pour soup mixture over steaks; cover with aluminum foil. Bake at 325 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Uncover; bake an additional 15 minutes. Serves 6 to 8.
