From the first shopping day, to decorating the tree, cookie swaps, ice skating parties and Christmas pageants, until the last pretty package has been opened and enjoyed, we make so many Christmas memories together, all season long.
You can probably think of one or two special moments right now that happened during the holidays last year! We'd love to include them in our next Christmas cookbook. Whether your favorite memory is tender and heartfelt or sweet and funny, happened last year or 50 years ago, take a moment today to share it with us.
Remember, if your memory is selected to appear in a Gooseberry Patch cookbook, you'll receive a FREE copy of the book as our way of saying thank you!
Here's a pair of our favorites to inspire you...
Santa Rides a Motorcycle
Sandy Coffey, Cincinnati, OH
"A few years ago, we headed over with our four kids to Grandma's apartment on Christmas Eve day. As we were pulling into the lot, a Santa pulled in on a motorcycle as well. We got into the building and headed for the elevator, as did Santa. Following us off the elevator and down the hall, he also entered Grandma's apartment, plopping down in her chair. After a little chat with her, he got up and left. Our kids were wide-eyed and astonished. Had they been good? Lo and behold, it was their Uncle Lynn. He rode the motorcycle every Christmas Eve day to visit folks. The kids did not know this for years...they got such a kick out of Santa riding a motorcycle!"
Homemade is Best for Christmas
Sharon Laney, Maryville, TN
My mother lived by the old English saying, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” For weeks before Christmas, we would hear her old treadle sewing machine humming us to sleep. She sewed new wardrobes for our dolls and sometimes a Christmas dress to match ours. One year she ordered new dollwigs the color of our hair. I was the only brunette among three blondes and felt very special. She also drew paper dolls for us, and we cut clothes out of old catalogs to dress them. The example of her creativity and ingenuity was the best gift she ever gave us. To this day, I enjoy giving and receiving homemade gifts...I know the time and love that goes into them.
